He played in the National Hockey League for 13 years (1949-1962) and he played on five Stanley Cup winning teams, four with the Montreal Canadians and one with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In the 1955-56 season, Bert set an NHL record with 56 assists and also equaled an NHL record with an 8-point game, a record that wasn’t eclipsed until 1976. Most of all he was known for his leadership qualities, for getting the most out of his teammates and inspiring those around him to play better.
